What makes life great in the 908? Our individual citizens working together to create a better community for us all. If there is one thing that can be said about Long Beach, it’s that there is an abundance of organizations with which to affiliate. Whether it’s a personal tie to a cause, an opportunity to build your resume, or a drive to connect with like-minded people, becoming involved in a non profit offers purpose to oneself and to community. The good news is ANYONE can be a steward of service whether it’s time, talent or treasure you have to offer, I encourage you to utilize this guide to start your path today:
Special thanks to Shirley Wild and Mari Hooper for providing inspiration for this call to action. Here’s to hoping that a new generation is encouraged to take the reins and do great things!
Perspective from our supporters
In what way do Non-Profits like yours make Long Beach a better community?
"Non-profits like Pathways bring compassionate care to those who need it most, without the worry of race, religion, ethnicity, or ability to pay. Pathways volunteers and donors are the most compassionate, generous, caring individuals who look outside of themselves to make life better for those around them. Their integrity, selflessness and “can do attitude” help Pathways make a difference in the lives of others."

Executive Director, Pathways
"Scouting at its core is community. In the past 18 months, Scouts in Long Beach have performed 15,000 hours of service, collected 11,600 pounds of food, and given more than $100,000 toward service projects in the Long Beach area. Since March 2020, more than 70 large-scale projects have been completed by aspiring Eagle Scouts. Formed in Long Beach over 100 years ago in 1919, Scouting’s commitment to the community remains strong. We are proud to provide life-changing outdoor opportunities to families with boys and girls ages 5-20. Scouting is enrolling youth now, preparing them to serve their communities for life."
