Q&A with Design Consultant Jessica Goodman

Local family-owned businesses are the LB908's first true love!

And when you work with someone as passionate about their business as Jessica Goodman of

Interior Style Designs, you understand why it's such a pleasure to share her story.

Tell us about your job. When did you decide you wanted to enter this field? What steps did you take to make that decision a reality?

I provide in-home consultation to homeowners who need window treatments. Our purpose [at Interior Style Designs] is to help our clients find the best window treatments to meet their needs on a functional level and a design level that also meets their budget.

I go through options by showing pictures and hand samples. I take window measurements and provide proposals for their project which will include installation services.

I think it was that I got to be a part of interior design and focus on just that one part. It fit my personality better to have that focus.

What sort of purpose do you feel in your job and/or why do you believe your line of work is important and meaningful?

How you can improve the overall functionality and look of a space is important to me. How you can control light and privacy and make it beautiful is what I love helping my clients achieve.

What is the most exciting part of your day-to-day work?

Each day I get to be in a new environment and work with new clients that I can build relationships with.

What do you think the future of your industry looks like, let's say in 15 years? What impact will it be making? How will it be different from what you do now?

Over the last 15 years I've seen the industry of window treatment grow as more people see the value in getting custom treatments from a professional. I think that need will always be there. I hope the growth in the interior design space keeps growing.

For any student, ages 12-18 who thinks your job sounds interesting, what advice would you give them to help them learn/train/explore your field?

I found that my business degree helped me with foundational skill in owning a business as well as some interior design classes for a basic knowledge of the field so I could easily communicate with designers on projects.

What makes Long Beach a great place to live and work as it relates to your industry?

Long Beach will always have a special place in my heart. This large city has such a great community vibe which makes it a great place to run a business.
