The Rams made me some big money last week and it should be no different this week against Aquinas at DeHaven Stadium. Aquinas couldn’t score if its life depended upon it (5.5 PPG) and that doesn’t bode well against Millikan’s suffocating defense. It’ll be turnover central with two interceptions by De’jon Vanhook and a fumble recovery by senior linebacker Nik Lombardi.
The Millikan offense is a little banged up, but sources tell me Cal commit, Malik Bradford WILL play this week. Three touchdown passes from QCC, one to Bradford and two to Jayden Davis. Take Millikan in my Stone Cold Lock of the Week. Hammer hammer hammer. Millikan 27 Aquinas 7.
Poly (-6.5) at Los Alamitos
To all of the Poly fans out there: you’re welcome for that 2-0 start. I had Poly beating Narbonne 21-6, but it was actually 26-3. That’s my bad.
I’m not gonna say I’m exactly like Keanu Reeves from the movie Hardball, but I mean, I may never pick a Poly game wrong again.

Wilson at Huntington Beach (-20.5)
Put me down as officially NOT worried about Wilson football. Yes, they’re 0-2 after a tough one against San Dimas last week, but you know who else started 0-2? The Western Allies in the Second World War. Then the Axis Powers ran into a buzz saw at the Battle of Midway – things change.
If you think coach Mark Ziegenhagen doesn’t have an ace up his sleeve, you’re out of your mind. Junior quarterback Ryan Pettway is only going to get better as the season progresses. He had one touchdown last week so give him two this week.
In the Upset of the Week, take Wilson with the points. Honestly, the Bruins probably weren’t ready for their brand new turf field because in Long Beach, we never get nice things. Now Wilson goes on the road and the defense will buckle down. Defense comes up with three turnovers, including a pick from Rasaan Moore. Wilson 21 Huntington Beach 20.
Lakewood vs. Mayfair (-20.5)
This is a huge rivalry because Mayfair is basically Lakewood’s little brother. Every year they play for the Milk Bucket because Mayfair is still extremely jealous that they can’t be in the Moore League, but Lakewood can. Is it fair? Absolutely. Lakewood is rich with tradition, while Mayfair is rich with transfers. I’ll take Lakewood all day, every day.
I hate to do this, but in this matchup, you have to take Mayfair – I’m not happy about it. Even though Lakewood is 2% Long Beach, while Mayfair is nonfat Long Beach, Mayfair is pretty talented on both sides of the ball.
I have running backs James Voorhies and Sebastian Kronberger with a touchdown apiece though. Mayfair 46 Lakewood 14.
St. Anthony (-2.5) vs. Palm Springs
St. Anthony is on the struggle bus right now, but they’re FINE. In week one against Valencia they were shut out. In week two against Warren they scored two touchdowns. I’m not a math guy, but I’m pretty sure that means they’ll put up 28 this week against Palm Springs.
Bank on quarterback Nick Billoups throwing for a TD and rushing for two TD’s behind Jake Buksa, Andres Kulju, and Adrian Magana. We all know Palm Springs is a destination city. Talent only shows up on Spring Break. St. Anthony 28 Palm Springs 20.
Jordan at Lynwood (-13.5)
Jordan got its first win in almost two years last week behind junior Anthony Scott’s three touchdowns against Rancho Dominguez. First year head coach Tim Wedlow has the train moving, so why stop now?
Lynwood is favored by a touchdown, but here’s where I’m at…Lynwood actually TIED last week to move to 0-1-1, which I hear is like kissing your sister. After doing some serious research, I’ve found that David Starr Jordan is actually an only child so the Panthers would never/could never play for the tie, unlike Lynwood. Lynwood will relax, while Jordan plays for the win and Deshawn Harris scores two touchdowns. The Panthers may never lose again. Jordan 14 Lynwood 12.
Cabrillo vs. San Pedro (-13.5)
Teams don’t perform as well after appearances on Last Chance U, that’s just a fact. But after two games, I think people have already forgotten that a former Cabrillo coach was on the show. So it’s go-time for the Jaguars now.
It hasn’t been the worst start for Cabrillo. I mean they haven’t looked totally awful averaging 13 points per game. Could this be the week they finally cover the spread? They’ve lost me a lot of money so far.
Honestly, I say no. San Pedro is that classic city where you think it’s super far away, but it’s actually neighboring Long Beach. Take San Pedro to cover even though Cabrillo sophomore Arnold Giron is about to have a huge day – one interception and one TD. San Pedro 34 Cabrillo 13.
