Fun Fact: The Beautiful Fountain of Naples

Did you know that the Naples Fountain dates all the way back to 1969? During this week’s fun fact, learn more about this well-known fountain in the city!

La Bella Fontana Di Napoli, more commonly known as the Naples Fountain, stands amidst The Colonnade and Ravena Drive. It was created in 1969 on the East Coast and brought to Long Beach to stand as a Neopolitan symbol of beauty and romance.

The petite La Bella Fontana Di Napoli park, about .58 acres in size, was dedicated in February 1971. Originally, the fountain was to be named “Bella Flora;” however, there was a problem: “flora” was Spanish for “flower,” and it didn’t seem fitting for the fountain to be called “beautiful flower.” Instead, the city chose the name La Bella Fontana Di Napoli — “The Beautiful Fountain of Naples.”

At the top of the fountain, there is an ornamental figure that resembles a pineapple or grenade, but Naples residents will tell you that no one quite knows what it depicts. Whatever it may be, La Bella Fontana Di Napoli still serves as one of the prime places for a romantic rendezvous in Long Beach. Now, you have a fun fact ice-breaker for when you meet there with your significant other.
